Business:

The Board discussed requirements for honorary members.  Al S. covered what traditionally is involved.

1.      The Honorary member is changed to Membership Type “Honorary” on RI and District records.  This can be done by the club secretary.

2.      The Honorary member pays no dues to the Club and the Club pays no dues for the honorary member to RI or to the District.

3.      The club currently pays $12 per year to RI for the Rotarian Magazine for each Honorary Member.

4.      The Honorary Member can attend any Club dinner meeting but must pay for the cost of the meal.

5.      The Honorary Member can attend any special club function (such as Christmas Party or Valentine Party) and can bring a guest, but will be required to pay his prorated party expenses

Ken Stafford moved that the Club make Charles LeGrand and Henry Sink Honorary Members.  Both resigned from the Club as of March 31, 2012.  The motion was seconded and passed.

RIF (Reading is Fundamental) Program.

This is a program through which the Club provides a free book to each student in the third, fourth, and fifth grades in the Burlington School System three times during the school year.  The Club has run this program for a number of years with financial help from several local businesses, the PTO’s, District Matching Grants, and from US Federal support.  Continued US Federal support is in question, and the Board discussed how we can fund the program in coming years.  No conclusions were reached except that the Board wants to continue the program in some form, even if on a smaller scale—like fewer than three distributions.  Further study of the problem was suggested.

Other Business:

President Allison announced that the club needs another board director to replace Evelyn Yalung who has resigned.

President Allison also pointed out that the Club needs a President Elect/Elect for the current year.  The two immediate past presidents, Ken Stafford and Bob Almond, will work on that project.

President Allison pointed out that John Currin, CEO of ARMC, will be given a PHF on May 21, 2012, by our District Governor, Terry Titus.

Roy Harris announced that he has set up for our Christmas party at the Alamance Country Club on second Tuesday night in December (Dec. 11, 2012)

Al Spinks asked if the board was acceptable to getting out the quarterly bill by e-mail.  The opinion was ,‘Yes’.  Al stated that he would get out these e-mail bills in a format more easily accessible that was the Feb., 15th bills.
