Burlington, NC, Rotary Club

Minutes of Board Meeting

At Starbuck’s on Huffman Mill Road

4:30 pm August 2, 2011

Attendees:

Board Members—Allison W., Henry J., Al S., Phil M., Mark P., Roy H., Ken S.

Absent:

Board members—George R., Evelyn Y..

Business:

President Allison is working toward publishing a club news letter.  It will have articles on club local events, member’s anniversaries, etc. and will be placed on the club website.

President Allison outlined several club social events—happy hours, baseball outing, dinner at Children’s Museum (catered).

President Allison suggested that we have a greeter at the door at our Monday night meetings.

Fund Raisers—several were discussed—

Stop Hunger Now—our club is currently active in this project

Restaurant fund raisers-

Harusaki, where we have held two fundraisers

                        Mimi’s

                        Village Grill

                        Applebee’s

                        Golf

We need to target our fund raisers toward RIF.  Mark P. reported that federal funding for RIF will not continue after the coming year.  We will need to bring in other organizations to the project and/or cut back on the scope of the RIF project.

Several other projects were discussed that would help other organizations

            Allied Churches Projects

            Habitat for Humanities

4 hr shifts, 4 people per shift, tasks specified before hand

The board agreed to work toward helping in Sep. or Oct. when cooler

New Members—a family night social for prospective new members was discussed

The Occasion eating facility was discussed.  The food and pricing is satisfactory; however, the rooms themselves need upgrading, especially the carpeting.

Someone mentioned that social events could be held at the Macintosh club house.

Al S. pointed out that two meeting ago, the club voted to have the next card game drawing proceeds (the club’s part) to go to the Children’s Museum.  This would be a one time gift, from the one time winning.  Phil M. pointed out that currently 75% of the pot goes to a club project and 25% goes to the member winner.

It was pointed out that we need more ticket sales for the card game—some way to encourage members to buy tickets as they come in the door.

A silent auction at the Christmas party was suggested as a fund raiser.  Roy H. will work toward the first Tuesday in Dec. for our Christmas Party.
